![]() ![]() Like the best answer suggests, if you delete the account without reassigning the files, the files themselves will be deleted. The main issue with Google Drive and these other cloud file sharing services is that they don't lend themselves to managing files from a centralized system. What's the reasons for going with the cloud? Are they looking to make their workforce more remote so they can collaborate or get their files from anywhere? I think we'll probably just pay for the data retention so we don't have to worry about the annoying manual backups. This is perfect, thank you for the advice. It got a lot better with Team drives, and drive file stream, and I definitely recommend it, just be sure to backup drive files before you delete user accounts, as they get purged in a matter of days after deletion. GSuite takes the cake as a collaborative tool, and it's pretty good for storage. ![]() Sorry for the long-winded and anecdotal advice. Users will inevitably not understand where they are saving things in the cloud, you will end up with multiple versions (regardless of local or cloud or which platform), and as you have turnover you will find that Suzie from accounting who left 3 months ago had that report we only run twice a year.and it's gone, because we didn't backup all of her drive files and google purges them pretty quickly if you don't pay extra for retention and the only backup method is google takeout which is a pain. As you increase the number of users, I honestly prefer the "old school" file shares and dfs replication, solely because it's so much easier from a manageability (and retention) standpoint. Of the three options, I am definitely going to say GSuite/drive is the way to go if you are less than ~25 users. The company owns them and users can be given various levels of permissions to access, modify, or modify permissions (iirc). ![]() GSuite has this thing called team drives, that act a lot more like traditional windows shares in terms of permissions. So there's no way, even if all the users of the organization are allowed to have access, to keep folders open to any user without each user sharing it out? As in admin grants permission to all folders as long as the user is within the organization? I feel like dropbox for business had an option to manage file permissions via the admin account on the web ![]() |
